COPPA and Privacy Policy

TOYchallenge is organized by Sally Ride Science™ (operated by Imaginary Lines, Inc.). TOYchallenge provides an exciting opportunity for kids to become and stay involved in inventing, imagining and creating, as teams of kids work with their coaches to design and create toys to be submitted to the TOYchallenge competition. While providing this opportunity, Sally Ride Science is also sensitive to the privacy concerns of participants and families, and is committed to complying fully with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. The collection, use and disclosure of personal information collected on the TOYchallenge site from children under the age of thirteen is limited absent parental consent. TOYchallenge information collection practices and privacy and security measures are described below.

Why and How We Collect and Store Information on Adults

TOYchallenge will collect personal information from its Team Coaches. The requested information may include personal information such as the Team Coach’s name, email address, telephone number and other mailing address. TOYchallenge may request demographic information from the Team Coaches, such as age, gender, professional background, in order to gain perspective on the Team Coaches working with the teams. The information collected will be used to provide to the Team Coaches information and updates on TOYchallenge, as well as to answer questions from Team Coaches and other adults accessing the site.

Why and How We Collect and Store Information from Children

To participate in a TOYchallenge, each Team Member must submit to the Team Coach a signed TOYchallenge Permission, Waiver and Release Form, the “Parental Waiver”, which the Coach will submit with the TOYchallenge entry. TOYchallenge may collect and store personal information from children under 13 (“children” or “child”) only after the Team Coach has obtained the signed Parental Waiver forms for her or his Team. The Parental Waiver confirms that you have provided consent to your child’s participation in the TOYchallenge and to the terms of our privacy policy.

The TOYchallenge Sign Up Form (to sign up the team) can only be submitted electronically by the Team Coach, to ensure students do not supply personally identifiable information online prior to their parent or guardian providing a Parental Waiver. Should TOYchallenge receive personal information from a Team Member in advance of receiving the signed Parental Waiver with the Preliminary Round entry, or from a child who is not a Team Member, the information will be used solely for purposes of responding directly on a one-time basis to a specific request. This information will not be maintained, and will not be used to re-contact the child.

After Parental Waivers are received, TOYchallenge might collect and store some information electronically on a Team Member to enhance the Team Member’s participation in the TOYchallenge activities. For example, we might store and use email addresses to contact participants regarding updates to TOYchallenge, answer questions from participants, notify the participants regarding winners, and provide other information regarding TOYchallenge. TOYchallenge does not condition a child’s participation upon her/him disclosing more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the TOYchallenge activities. Further, although the TOYchallenge site provides information to parents, coaches and Team Members online, submission of TOYchallenge entries and related information will all be handled off-line.

As stated in the Parental Waiver, TOYchallenge will have the right to use each participating Team Member’s name, photographs/film, likeness, Contest Submission and prize information for promotional purposes and without further compensation.

Aggregating and Sharing Information

TOYchallenge might compile information regarding traffic to the site to determine the number of visitors to the site, how long the visitor stayed, what pages of the site were visited and other general information, which is not otherwise personally identifiable. TOYchallenge might share aggregate (nonpersonal) information compiled from traffic reports with our partners or sponsors.

From time to time, TOYchallenge may share personal information collected online with entities who will use it solely to provide support for the operations of TOYchallenge (e.g., technical support, email services, sponsors, prize and competition fulfillment). These entities will not use personal information collected online for any other purpose, and Sally Ride Science will assure that all sponsors and other outside organizations involved in running the contest agree to maintain the confidentiality, security and integrity of the personal information they obtain from TOYchallenge. TOYchallenge may also disclose personal information to a successor or assign in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy or similar event.

Security

TOYchallenge has taken steps to ensure that any information we collect is secure. Our security measures include limiting the number of people who have physical access to our database and servers, utilizing electronic security systems, and using password protections that guard against unauthorized access.

Review of Personal Information

A parent or guardian who gives TOYchallenge permission to collect and use his or her child’s personal information collected online can, at any time, do the following: (1) review, correct or have deleted the child’s personal information so collected; and/or (2) discontinue further collection and use of the child’s personal information collected on-line. To do so, please contact us using our online contact form and be sure to include your child’s name and email address, your name and email address.
