Astronaut Sally Ride and Prescription Solutions Bring Hundreds of Girls Together to Explore Hands-on Science at University of California, San Diego
Dr. Sally Ride, America's first woman in space, touched down at University of California, San Diego on Saturday to inspire local girls at the Sally Ride Science Festival. The festival, presented by Prescription Solutions and Sally Ride Science, brought together over eight hundred upper elementary and middle school girls, parents and teachers for a day of science and socializing.
The Sally Ride Science Festival, in partnership with University of California, San Diego, featured discovery workshops for girls given by local scientists and engineers. Workshop topics focused on the area of health science, including one by Prescription Solutions on how pharmacists work together with doctors and patients to help people live healthier lives.

Additional workshops for parents and teachers included topics ranging from toy design to gender equity in science. The festival also included an energetic street fair with hands-on activities, food and music. Girls were able to interact with local scientists as they made slime, explored robotics, and examined the submarine used in the Under Sea Voyager Project.
